Fenerbahçe Sports Club was founded in 1907 in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul. The club initially aimed to play only football but gradually expanded its activities to many other branches. Fenerbahçe derives its name from the Fenerbahçe Cape, where the club was established.
Fenerbahçe achieved great success by winning Turkey's first international trophy in 1968. In the 1970s and 1980s, the club became one of the strongest teams in Turkish football, winning numerous league championships. In the early 2000s, they also gained international attention by reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.
