Fenerbahçe dismissed head coach Domenico Tedesco on April 27, just 24 hours after a crushing 3-0 defeat to archrival Galatasaray. This loss effectively ended the club's hopes of securing their first league title in over a decade, highlighting the unforgiving nature of Istanbul football, especially after derby defeats.
The decisive blow came with the "Intercontinental Derby" loss, which handed the title to Galatasaray and left Fenerbahçe seven points adrift with only three matches remaining. The club swiftly announced Tedesco's dismissal along with his entire coaching staff, stating, "We thank Domenico Tedesco and his staff for their efforts and wish them success in their future endeavors." Assistant coach Zeki Murat Göle will take charge for the final three games.
Tedesco's sacking was part of a broader "total overhaul" of Fenerbahçe's football operations. Sporting director Devin Özek and football coordinator Berke Çelebi were also fired. These sweeping changes underscore the ownership's impatience for a long-overdue league title.
Tedesco, 40, had only been appointed in September on a two-year deal, replacing Jose Mourinho. He arrived with a strong reputation from RB Leipzig and the Belgian national team, but ultimately struggled in the demanding Istanbul environment.
